Under the PEMERKASA+ aid package, the government will be offering special one-off payments to bus, taxi, and e-hailing drivers, as well as tour guides. The PEMERKASA+ package will also see the Prihatin Special Grant given to micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) increased by RM500.

“It is undeniable that during movement control order (MCO) times, it will affect the drivers of taxis, rental cars, and school buses,” said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. “To reduce their burden, the government agrees to offer a special one-off assistance of RM500 to 17,000 tour guides, 40,000 taxi drivers, 11,000 school bus drivers, 4,000 tour bus drivers, and 62,000 rental car and e-hailing drivers.”

This one-off payment will amount to RM68 million and will be channelled to registered recipients starting in July.

Meanwhile, the government will be increasing the amount of the Prihatin Special Grant for MSMEs from RM1,000 to RM1,500. “This means nearly 1 million SMEs and micro enterprises will receive RM1,000 in the middle of the month of June and RM500 more in July,” the prime minister explained. The Prihatin Special Grant had been introduced before under previous economic stimulus packages over the course of the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the prime minister, these initiatives fall under the objective of supporting business continuity through the PEMERKASA+ aid package. “The government will continue to help to ensure the continuity of business, especially for SMEs in ensuring their cash flow,” he said.
