Under the Perikatan Nasional government’s revised economic stimulus package for Covid-19, domestic and commercial electricity consumers will receive a 2% discount on their electricity bills for a period of six months.

“Taking into account the spread of Covid-19 which has had a wide impact, the government has now decided to grant a 2% discount for all other users in the commercial, industrial, and agriculture categories as well as domestic users, beginning 1 April until 30 September 2020,” said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

As announced in the economic stimulus package of 27 February 2020, business categories affected by Covid-19 are set to receive a 15% discount on electricity usage for the same six-month period. Hotels, travel agencies, airlines, shopping malls, and convention and exhibition centres are considered the main affected business categories.

According to Tan Sri Muhyiddin, the 2% discount will benefit more than 10 million households, commercial users, and those in the industrial and agricultural sectors. The discount is expected to involve an estimated allocation of RM500 million.
