PTPTN Committed In Encouraging Malaysians To Save Via SSPN Savings Month Roadshow

The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) has reiterated its commitment to encourage Malaysians to save for their children’s tertiary education with the National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN). This comes as it formally officiated the 2023 SSPN Savings Month (BMS) roadshow, which was organised as part of its annual savings campaign activities.

Chairman of PTPTN, Datuk Norliza Abdul Rahim said that the BMS campaign – which has been held since 2018 – is the association’s signature programme to promote SSPN as the preferred choice of savings product among Malaysians. For its 2023 edition, PTPTN decided to introduce a brand-new element, namely the BMS roadshow, to refresh the campaign. It allowed PTPTN’s team to meet and interact with the public at selected locations across 14 states throughout the whole of October, thereby inspiring better awareness of the product.

For context, the roadshow had started in the Borneo Zone (Sabah and Sarawak) in early October, before it went on to visit the Eastern Zone (Terengganu, Kelantan, and Pahang). Subsequently, it made its way to the Southern Zone (Johor, Melaka, and Negeri Sembilan) then moved on to the Northern Zone (Penang, Perak, Kedah, and Perlis). It is set to end in Kuala Lumpur on 27 to 29 October 2023.

Activities at the roadshow include colouring and talent contests, robotics model creating contests, and Family Jenga. There is also the usual lucky draw, with 66 cash prizes totalling RM75,000 to be won.

“PTPTN is part of the government’s efforts to ensure no student is left behind in pursuing higher education due to financial constraints. The agency, which is now 26 years old, is committed to carrying out its function to provide loan facilities, manage the repayment, and instil a culture of saving,” Datuk Norliza shared, adding that as of 30 September, PTPTN has helped 3.86 million students through loans amounting to RM70.48 billion.

The chairman further noted that PTPTN is targeting RM220 million in deposits for the BMS 2023 campaign, and that she is optimistic about achieving the target.

The PTPTN had previously launched the overall BMS 2023 campaign in early October to kickstart its various events. It featured the theme “Robotik: Ke Arah Transformasi Dunia Pendigitalan” with the tagline “Jom Jadi Superhero Anak Anda”.
