Public To Enjoy Free RapidKL Rides For A Month, Starting From Today

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced that commuters will be able to enjoy a month of free rides on all public transportation services provided by RapidKL, starting from today. This is in conjunction with the official launch of the MRT Putrajaya Line (Phase 1) today.

With this, passengers will be exempted from paying fees for rides on the MRT, LRT, and KL Monorail. Rides on RapidKL buses, feeder buses, and the Sunway Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) will also be free. “I hope every city folk will take this opportunity to try public transport. Leave your vehicles at Park N Ride,” said the prime minister when announcing the offer.

Meanwhile, the newly launched MRT Putrajaya Line (Phase 1) is set to begin operations at 3pm today, stretching up to 17.5km long with a total of 12 stations – from Kwasa Damansara to Kampung Batu. Each train – consisting of four carriages – will have a passenger capacity of 1,200 people, and will arrive every four minutes during peak hours.

For context, the full MRT Putrajaya Line is expected to be developed in two phases, with Phase 2 set to be completed by January 2023. Upon completion, the prime minister said that the whole line will serve about two million residents from Kwasa Damansara all the way to Putrajaya, passing through key areas including Titiwangsa, Ampang Park, and the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX).

“The full opening of the MRT Putrajaya Line is expected to see more than 104,000 users a day. It is hoped that this will reduce the traffic congestion affecting KL,” Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri further said.
