Malaysians can now get free access to Coursera courses and leading AI applications through the newly launched Rakyat Digital portal. Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo unveiled the platform on 11 August at the Malaysia AI Takeover 2026 event in Ampang
Anyone aged 18 to 30 who complete five prescribed learning modules, covering AI Safety, CyberSAFE, Generative AI, Agentic AI and Cloud Untuk Rakyat, will receive three months of free access to leading generative AI applications. This benefit begins on 31 August 2026 and will be rolled out in phases, subject to terms and conditions.
The courses themselves are already open on the portal, so completion can start before the access period begins. Malaysians looking for AI skills support beyond this window can also refer to Yayasan Peneraju’s AI skills financing scheme, which offers interest-free funding for AI-related training.
Separately, the portal’s Global Learning Pass gives 100,000 Malaysians three months of free access to more than 16,000 Coursera courses and certifications. At Coursera’s standard pricing of USD 59 (around RM240) a month, three months of free access works out to roughly RM720 in value per participant.
The programme will accept 25,000 participants every three months, with the first group starting on 16 September 2026.
You can register for both the AI application access and the Global Learning Pass now on the Rakyat Digital portal.
The portal supports Malaysia’s Digital 2030 targets of 80% digital literacy and 700,000 retrained workers nationwide, with a specific goal of producing 5,000 rural digital entrepreneurs.
