RM30 Monthly Bus Pass Now Offers Unlimited Rides Nationwide

Bus commuters across Malaysia can now enjoy unlimited rides for only RM30 a month under the BAS.MY service and other participating Stage Bus Transformation Programme (SBST) routes. The new fare, reduced from RM50, takes effect immediately, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

Speaking at the launch of the initiative in Taman Sutera Utama, Johor Baru, Loke said the lower rate translates to just RM1 a day for daily commuters, or about 50 sen for a return trip. He expressed hope that the move will make bus travel more accessible and attract more people to use public transport regularly.

Part Of An Ongoing Effort To Improve Affordability

The monthly pass, first introduced in August 2023, is part of the Transport Ministry’s broader effort to provide affordable and convenient travel options for Malaysians. The pass offers unlimited rides for 30 days across all BAS.MY and SBST routes and is available exclusively to Malaysian citizens.

Loke emphasised that the RM30 pass is a permanent measure. Commuters can renew it monthly to continue enjoying the benefit. Meanwhile, senior citizens, students, and persons with disabilities are entitled to free rides on BAS.MY services but must apply for concession passes to qualify.

Growing Demand For Bus Services In Johor Baru

Demand for public bus services continues to rise in Johor Baru, where BAS.MY currently serves over 30,000 passengers daily, or about 900,000 riders each month. Loke noted that the figure is expected to grow as more routes and buses are introduced.

Recently, three new routes were added, increasing the total number of BAS.MY routes in Johor Baru to 21, up from 18 previously. The expanded network now covers key areas such as Johor Baru, Iskandar Puteri, Pasir Gudang, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, and Pontian.

“With more buses and extended routes, we anticipate monthly ridership to surpass one million,” Loke said.

Encouraging Sustainable And Cost-Effective Mobility

The fare reduction is part of the government’s ongoing strategy to make public transport a more practical choice for daily commuting. By keeping fares low, the initiative aims to ease financial pressure on households, reduce traffic congestion, and promote sustainable urban mobility across Malaysia.
