RM68 Merdeka Unlimited Travel Pass For Smart Tunnel Users
Author Avatar

Highway concessionaire Amanat Lebuhraya Rakyat Bhd has introduced the Merdeka Unlimited Travel Pass in conjunction with National Day and Malaysia Day. The one-month pass is available for RM68 and can be used on the Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel (Smart) from 16 August to 16 September 2025.

Significant Savings for Frequent Commuters

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the Merdeka Unlimited Travel Pass allows frequent Smart Tunnel users to save up to RM64 a month, based on the average monthly toll payment of RM132. On average, daily commuters make around 44 trips a month, with the one-way toll priced at RM3.

He added that the pass not only reduces commuting costs but also provides faster access to Kuala Lumpur city centre. The Smart Tunnel serves an average of 19,000 vehicles per day and is the world’s only dual-function tunnel designed for both traffic and floodwater management.

Aligned with Malaysia Madani Principles

Nanta said the Merdeka Unlimited Travel Pass reflects the Malaysia Madani principles, which emphasise inclusivity and the well-being of the people.

He stressed that public facilities should be developed with a people-centred approach and that the initiative demonstrates how industry players, particularly in infrastructure, can take proactive steps to help the public manage daily living costs, especially in urban areas.

The launch ceremony was held at the Smart Management and Tunnel Operations Complex, attended by Malaysian Highway Authority director-general Datuk Sazali Harun and Amanat Lebuhraya Rakyat Bhd Group chief executive officer Muhammad Nizam Alias.

Support from the Works Ministry and Malaysian Highway Authority

The Works Ministry, through the Malaysian Highway Authority, supports efforts to provide better facilities for highway users. Nanta said the Merdeka Unlimited Travel Pass is an example of how public-private cooperation can offer tangible benefits to road users while maintaining high service standards.

He also noted that the initiative can strengthen public trust in the highway industry and reflects the balance between economic growth and social justice promoted by Malaysia Madani.
