The Selangor government has expanded eligibility for the Kita Selangor Voucher (BKS) programme to households earning RM8,000 a month or below, Selangor women’s development and social welfare committee chairman Anfaal Saari said.
The programme initially prioritised vulnerable groups such as single mothers and hardcore-poor households.
It was then widened to households earning RM5,000 or below in August, after applications came in under the programme’s quota. It’s now been expanded again to households earning RM8,000 or below.
To be eligible, you need to be a Malaysian citizen and a registered voter residing in Selangor. Married couples or single parents must have at least one child aged 18 or younger, and household income must be RM8,000 or below.
Only one recipient is allowed per household, and you can’t already be an active recipient of the Selangor Prosperous Living Aid (Bingkas) programme.
Applications go through the Selangkah app, available on the App Store and Google Play. If you’re currently under review, were previously rejected, or are appealing a decision, your case will be reassessed under the new RM8,000 threshold automatically. With Selangor’s inflation rate at 2.1% in August, compared with 1.9% nationwide, everyday expenses continue to put pressure on household budgets. For families who previously fell outside the eligibility range, the expanded RM8,000 income threshold could provide some much-needed breathing room as the cost of essentials, food and other household expenses continues to rise.
