The National Registration Department (JPN) has confirmed that some Malaysians with the new MyKad are unable to complete electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) verification, after the redesigned card was rejected by several verification systems following its nationwide rollout on 17 September.
Touch ‘n Go eWallet, Ryt Bank, AEON Bank and GXBank have all rejected the new MyKad during eKYC checks. MyDigital ID’s own online registration process also fails to recognise the redesigned card.
JPN said it’s engaging with the relevant agencies and eKYC providers to fix the issue, though no timeline has been given.
The redesigned MyKad features 53 security elements, including a QR code on the back. The cardholder’s photo has moved from the right side to the left, and the physical chip has been relocated from the front of the card to the back.
These changes likely explain why some systems aren’t recognising it yet.
JPN recommends checking directly with your bank or service provider for alternative verification methods while systems are updated.
If you’re a first-time MyDigital ID user with the new MyKad, you’ll currently need to register at a physical kiosk, or pre-register when applying for your card at a JPN counter. Online registration support for the new MyKad is expected from 1 October 2026.
If your existing MyKad is still in good condition, there’s no need to rush out and replace it. Existing cards remain valid, and you don’t need to switch unless it’s necessary.
