Construction management services company Southern Score Sdn Bhd has rewarded top shuttlers, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik with an incentive of RM100,000 for winning Malaysia’s first gold at the World Badminton Championships in Tokyo last month.
Executive director and chief executive officer of Southern Score, Gan Yee Hin said that the reward was presented to both Aaron and Soh as a token of appreciation for their dedication and hard work. “We believe this world title is just the beginning of their badminton journey,” he said, adding that Southern Score is also contributing RM200,000 to Petaling Badminton Club (PBC) – where Aaron and Soh first hailed from before joining the national team.
“We hope that the contribution provides some support as they nurture talents to represent the country. PBC has had a history of producing several of the country’s well-known players, such as Chen Tang Jie, Cheam June Wei, Man Wei Chong, and Goh V Shem,” said Gan.
Meanwhile, Aaron and Soh said that they are grateful for such incentives, and support such as these will motivate them as they prepare themselves mentally and physically to win more accolades for Malaysia. This includes striving towards the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games.
For context, Aaron and Soh made history by scoring Malaysia’s very first win at the World Badminton Championships 2022, defeating three-times world champions Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan from Indonesia.
