Author Avatar

Spotify has announced a price update for its Premium subscription plans in several regions, including Malaysia. The company stated that this change is part of its broader strategy to improve user experience and continue developing new features on the platform.

New Premium Prices For Malaysian Users Take Effect Next Month

Starting next month, Premium subscribers in Malaysia will see updated pricing reflected in their monthly billing. The Individual Plan will now cost RM17.50 per month, while the Student Plan will be priced at RM9.50 per month. For households, the Family Plan will increase to RM27.90 per month, and the Duo Plan will be updated to RM24.50 per month.

Previously, the Individual Plan was priced at RM15.90, the Student Plan at RM8.50, the Duo Plan at RM21.50, and the Family Plan at RM24.90 per month, following a price adjustment implemented in September 2023.

Spotify Price Changes Extend To Global Markets

The updated pricing will also apply to Premium subscribers in South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific region. Over the coming weeks, Spotify will notify affected users via email, and the new rates are already reflected on its website for each region.

Spotify explained that the price changes are aimed at supporting continued innovation across its platform. Price adjustments, according to the company, enable further investment in features, content, and user interface improvements.

Earnings Results And Platform Investment

Spotify’s price update follows the release of its Q2 2025 earnings report, which showed continued growth in its Premium subscriber base, reaching approximately 276 million globally. Despite this growth, Spotify’s earnings fell short of analyst expectations, with revenue and profit figures coming in lower than forecasted.

Spotify recorded revenue of €4.19 billion (approximately RM21 billion) for the second quarter of 2025, which was slightly below market expectations. The company also reported a loss per share (EPS) of (€0.42), equivalent to approximately RM2.06, falling short of analyst forecasts, and has issued a cautious outlook for the next quarter.

What Spotify Subscribers Should Know

The new rates will take effect from each user’s next billing cycle. Spotify will provide official notification via email before the changes are applied.
