Microsoft has increased the subscription price of its PC Game Pass in Malaysia. Previously priced at RM20 per month, the service now costs RM25 per month. This follows a similar adjustment last year, marking two consecutive years of price revisions for Malaysian subscribers.
Trial Offer Still Available
For new users, Microsoft continues to offer a 14-day trial at RM5. After the trial ends, the subscription will automatically renew at RM25 per month unless cancelled. This trial period allows players to experience the library of PC titles before committing to the recurring fee.
The adjustment in Malaysia is part of a broader reshuffling of Xbox Game Pass pricing worldwide. Internationally, Microsoft has restructured its tiers to make the benefits more distinct across different price levels.
In particular, the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate plan has seen a notable increase in the United States, rising from US$20 to US$30 per month. The plan remains the only one that provides access to new releases on launch day. Thousands of gamers are cancelling their subscriptions stating the price hike is ridiculous.
While Malaysian subscribers were not directly affected by the tier restructuring, the local price rise reflects Microsoft’s global update to its subscription model. At RM25 per month, the PC Game Pass remains an option for gamers who prefer a subscription service, but the increase places it in closer competition with discounted game purchases available on platforms such as Steam, which remains excellent value for money.
For players in Malaysia, the decision now comes down to comparing long-term value. An annual subscription to PC Game Pass amounts to RM300, which grants access to hundreds of games but requires an ongoing monthly commitment. On the other hand, seasonal promotions like the Steam Autumn Sale 2025, with discounts of up to 90%, may appeal to those who prefer owning their games outright.
