Malaysians can now install Touch ‘n Go RFID tags on their own as the e-payment solutions company has launched its TNG RFID self-fitment kit. Available for purchase on e-commerce platforms Lazada and Shopee, the self-fitment kit costs RM35 each and is shipped nationwide.

The self-fitment kit comes with step-by-step instructions on how to install and activate the RFID tag. Once you’ve purchased and received the self-fitment kit, you can install the RFID tag in a few steps:

Note that there are certain requirements to observe when installing the RFID tag. For instance, it cannot be placed on tinted windscreens or headlamps as this may hamper the tag’s performance. The RFID tag should also be placed at least 5cm away from any metal content.

Following that, you’ll need to activate the tag by visiting Touch ‘n Go’s Mobility eXperience website and registering for an account. To sign up, you’ll need to provide the TNG RFID tag number as well as your vehicle details. You’ll also need to link the RFID tag to your Touch ‘n Go eWallet account. Once done, the RFID tag will be activated within 24 hours, and you’ll be notified via SMS.

“Safety is our priority. We’ve introduced a DIY kit to bring further convenience as we understand that people will want to move safer in the comfort of their car,” said the chief executive officer of Touch ‘n Go, Syahrunizam Samsudin. The launch of the RFID self-fitment kit is timely during this period of conditional movement control order (CMCO) as it allows you to install the RFID tag in the safety of your own home.

Prior to this, the TNG RFID tags had been issued for free from 2018 as part of an 18-month long trial period. It was then officially launched in February 2020, with the tags priced at RM35 at fitment centres.

To find out more about the TNG RFID self-fitment kit, head on over to Touch ‘n Go’s Mobility eXperience website. Alternatively, you can get it directly at Lazada and Shopee.
