YouTube has launched a new subscription tier called YouTube Premium Lite, priced from RM12.90 per month. The plan offers an ad-free viewing experience for most non-music content, along with offline downloads and background playback, at about 38% less than the standard Premium plan.
YouTube currently offers four subscription tiers:

At RM12.90 per month, the Premium Lite plan sits at the entry-level alongside the Student plan, both priced identically. Unlike the full Premium plan, Lite’s ad-free experience, background playback, and downloads apply only to most non-music videos such as creator uploads and podcasts. Shorts, official music videos, covers, and dance videos are excluded, and ads may also appear when searching or browsing.
The standard Premium plan at RM20.90 per month removes ads across all content and unlocks YouTube Music. The Family plan at RM41.90 per month extends full Premium features to up to five additional household members aged 13 and above. Subscriptions can be purchased via the YouTube website or through the YouTube app.
| Plan | Price | Ad-Free Coverage | YouTube Music | Notes |
| Premium Lite | RM12.90/month* | Most non-music videos | No | Ads may still appear on Shorts, music videos, and when searching or browsing |
| Premium | RM20.90/month | All content | Yes | Full features across YouTube and YouTube Music |
| Student | RM12.90/month | All content | Yes | Eligible students only, annual verification required |
| Family | RM41.90/month | All content | Yes | Up to 5 additional members aged 13 and above |
*Some users have reported seeing RM16.90/month.
Premium Lite makes the most sense for viewers who mainly watch creator content, vlogs, or podcasts and do not use YouTube Music. At RM12.90 per month, it saves RM8 compared to the Premium plan, or RM96 over a year.
Full-time students may find the Student plan more worthwhile since it is priced the same as Premium Lite at RM12.90 per month but includes full Premium features and YouTube Music, making it the better deal for those who qualify.
For households where multiple people want ad-free YouTube, the Family plan works out to around RM6.98 per person per month if all six slots are used. It covers all content including YouTube Music for every member.
If YouTube Music is a regular part of your listening habits alongside YouTube viewing, the Premium plan at RM20.90 bundles both into one subscription, which may be more convenient and cost-effective than subscribing to a separate music streaming service.
