RinggitPlus And CIMB Foundation Champion Financial Literacy With "Personal Tax Made Simple" Workshop

The “Good Habits, Good Future” initiative returned for a third instalment as RinggitPlus and CIMB Foundation, in collaboration with The Futurizts and ThinkTax Consultants, tackled one of Malaysians’ most pressing annual concerns, personal income tax.

Held on 6 December 2025 at TGV One Utama, the free workshop “Personal Tax Made Simple” drew attendees looking to navigate tax season with greater confidence and keep more of their hard-earned money through available reliefs and deductions.

This latest session built on momentum from our second workshop held in November at Pavilion Bukit Jalil, furthering our commitment to enhancing financial literacy among Malaysians. The event also reinforced CIMB Foundation’s JagaDuit initiative, which helps Malaysians build sustainable money management habits.

Expert Guidance On Tax Planning

Pugaleshwaran Raja Kumaran, Executive Director from ThinkTax Consultants, led the workshop with a focus on translating complex tax regulations into actionable strategies. His sessions covered essential topics including understanding taxable income, identifying eligible relief claims, maximising deductions, and avoiding common filing mistakes that cost Malaysians money each year.

The interactive format allowed participants to ask specific questions about their individual tax situations during dedicated Q&A segments. Questions ranged from first-time filer concerns to more complex queries about investment-related deductions and relief optimisation strategies.

Throughout the workshop, Pugaleshwaran emphasised that effective tax planning means knowing which reliefs and deductions you qualify for. Many Malaysians miss out on available reliefs simply because they’re unaware they qualify for them, from lifestyle purchases to education expenses and retirement contributions.

Interactive Learning And Engagement

The workshop structure incorporated quiz sessions testing participants’ understanding of tax concepts, with prizes awarded to top scorers. Shinji from The Futurizts moderated the sessions, ensuring smooth transitions between the educational content and interactive elements.

Attendees also received complimentary access to Experian credit score reports, allowing them to assess their broader financial health alongside tax planning knowledge. The connection between good credit management and overall financial wellness formed part of the day’s holistic approach to money management.

Continuing The Mission

The “Good Habits, Good Future” series has now reached hundreds of Malaysians across three workshops, covering debt management, savings building, and now tax planning. Each session addresses different aspects of financial challenges facing Malaysian households.

Workshop participants were encouraged to explore CIMB’s JagaDuit programme for ongoing financial education and tools. The programme offers comprehensive resources covering cash flow management, debt strategies, financial planning, and protection against scams.

The Path Forward

As tax season approaches, attendees left equipped with knowledge to file confidently and claim legitimate reliefs they might have previously overlooked. The workshop’s emphasis on planning early rather than rushing last-minute aligns with the broader “Good Habits, Good Future” philosophy that small, consistent actions build stronger financial futures.

RinggitPlus and CIMB Foundation remain committed to delivering financial literacy initiatives that provide practical education translating directly into savings and better money management for Malaysian households.
