The Small Change That Makes Saving Feel More Motivating
Author Avatar

Progress often feels invisible when you’re saving. Money gets transferred into a separate account, sits there quietly, and after a while it stops feeling rewarding. Without visible signs that you are moving forward, it becomes easier to skip a month or put it off entirely.

That is why more financial apps are now adding features that make it easier to stay consistent with saving, helping users stick with their savings habits over time instead of giving up after a few weeks. Maybank has taken a similar approach with Tabung, an in-app savings feature within the MAE app.

Turning Small Savings Into Something More

Tabung lets users create separate savings goals with automated contributions and Boosters that help build savings gradually through everyday spending. By separating savings into individual goals, Tabung makes it easier for users to stay consistent without needing constant manual effort.

Alongside Tabung, Maybank is running the Tabung Daily Bonus campaign, where eligible MAE app users can earn up to 4.29% p.a. in daily bonus rewards from 25 May to 24 August 2026. Users can create multiple “BONUS” Tabungs during the campaign period.

To participate, create a Tabung with the word “BONUS” in the name. If that Tabung maintains an end-of-day balance of at least RM850, users will receive RM0.10 credited into the Tabung the following day.  If we annualise the returns, that’s RM36.50 (RM0.10 x 365 days), which is equivalent to 4.29% per annum.

Tabung is also updated with visual features that help users follow their savings progress more easily. Eligible “BONUS” Tabungs are highlighted with a glowing green outline on the banner, making them easier to identify at a glance.

Daily bonus rewards are credited the following day once the required end-of-day balance is met, with users receiving a push notification once the bonus is added to their account. Users can view their progress through the Daily Bonus counter in the app.

Additional Lucky Draw Reward

The campaign also includes a lucky draw component. To enter:

  • Transfer a minimum of RM200 in fresh funds from another bank or eWallet into your Maybank account
  • Include the word “Bonus” in the recipient reference field when making the transfer
  • Each eligible RM200 transfer earns one lucky draw entry

Maybank will award RM50 bonuses to 2,000 selected customers through the draw.

Small Habits, Steadier Savings

To help users save more consistently, Auto Deduction allows scheduled transfers into a Tabung without requiring manual action each time, while Boosters help grow savings gradually through everyday spending activity inside the MAE app.

Together, these features reduce the need for constant decision-making. Instead of wondering whether you have saved enough or remembering to top up manually, contributions and progress happen in the background while still remaining visible within the app.
