The private sector and property developers are being encouraged to work with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to support sustainable urban infrastructure.

KL Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif said such partnerships can help build cleaner, greener facilities for the city. She highlighted a successful collaboration between DBKL and Radium Development Berhad, which led to the creation of a solar-powered covered walkway connecting Taman Melati LRT Station to Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT).

“I am calling on the private sector to emulate Radium (Radium Development Berhad) in providing more green connectors and to collaborate with us at DBKL.”

“You can reach out to me or my colleagues to discuss how we can make Kuala Lumpur more liveable and loved by all,” she said.

Speaking at the walkway’s launch, she urged more similar initiatives across Kuala Lumpur.

The 350-metre walkway, completed in November last year at a cost of RM600,000, provides shelter for pedestrians and promotes walking as a safe and convenient alternative to driving. Powered by solar panels, it also supports efforts to build energy-efficient public infrastructure and ease traffic congestion.

“This green connector is crucial in promoting walkability and providing the necessary infrastructure to encourage people to walk comfortably,” she said.
