LHDN: No Need To Amend 2025 Tax Returns For Employer Tax Marking Error
Author Avatar

Some taxpayers who mistakenly selected “Tax borne by employer” in their 2025 income tax return do not need to submit an amended form, according to Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri Malaysia. The agency said it has identified affected cases and will process the related refunds once the error is confirmed.

The issue involves individuals who unintentionally marked the “Tax borne by employer” field while completing their Income Tax Return Form for the 2025 year of assessment. LHDN said this has delayed some refunds, as processing depends on the information submitted in the return.

Confirmed Cases Will Be Handled Without An Amendment

LHDN said taxpayers do not need to amend their return where the case has been verified as a marking error.

The agency has reviewed the affected submissions and will process refunds directly in stages, without requiring taxpayers to correct that specific selection through an amendment.

The Error Affects Refund Processing

The field involved refers to tax being paid by an employer on behalf of an employee.

When selected incorrectly, it can affect how the return is interpreted by the system. LHDN said refunds are processed automatically based on submitted information, meaning an incorrect declaration can disrupt the usual timeline.

This Is An Administrative Update, Not A New Tax Rule

The announcement does not introduce any new tax rule, filing requirement, or legal change.

Instead, it clarifies how LHDN is handling a specific filing error linked to the 2025 year of assessment. This approach is already in effect, with refunds being released in stages. No specific timeline was provided.

Accuracy Still Affects How Quickly Refunds Arrive

The update shows how even a small error in a tax return can delay a refund.

Tax refunds are often used for regular expenses, savings, or planned payments. A delay may affect how quickly that money becomes available. LHDN also made clear that this approach applies only to cases it has verified, rather than automatically to all similar submissions.

Refunds Will Still Take Time To Reach Taxpayers

Although an amendment is not required in these cases, refunds will not be immediate.

LHDN said payments will be processed in stages, which means some taxpayers may still need to wait while reviews and processing are completed.

Official Contact Channels Remain Open

LHDN said enquiries can be made through the Hasil Contact Centre at 03 8911 1000 or +603 8911 1000 for calls from outside Malaysia.

Taxpayers can also use HASiL Live Chat and the customer feedback form on the official portal for further assistance.

LHDN Aims To Improve Refund Processing

LHDN said it remains committed to ensuring tax refund management is carried out fairly, transparently, and with integrity, in line with efforts to strengthen tax administration.

This clarification addresses a specific filing error and does not change how tax returns are submitted.
