Chinese New Year 2026: The Ultimate Guide to Huat Deals in Malaysia
Author Avatar

From angpow to reunion dinners and festive shopping, Chinese New Year spending adds up quickly. The good news is that this season’s promotions are plentiful. We’ve curated the most relevant CNY deals across banks, dining, and retail in one place, helping you make the most of the celebrations without losing track of your budget.

Bank CNY Promotions: Dine, Save, And Earn

Malaysian banks have launched campaigns ranging from dining cashback to lucky draws with prizes like luxury cars and gold bars.

Credit Card Dining and Cashback Deals

Using the right card for your reunion dinner or festive shopping can stretch your Ringgit further through cashback or rewards points. While cashback rates look generous, these CNY dining promotions typically come with spend thresholds and caps, so they deliver the most value when used for larger reunion dinners rather than smaller meals.

  • CIMB: 30% dining cashback for premium cardholders (capped at RM300 per transaction) when spending a minimum of RM1,000 between 15 January and 31 March 2026.
  • Public Bank: 25% cashback on fuel and dining for PB Visa Credit Cardholders until 28 February 2026.
  • Maybank: F&B deals at participating restaurants, including up to 20% off at select hotels and restaurants when paying with Maybank cards. Check out the full CNY Raya Dining Offers list (PDF) for participating outlets.
  • BSN: Up to 88,888 Happy Points available for festive spending throughout January and February 2026.
  • Alliance Bank: RM38 cashback for new CASA/CASA-i account openings (minimum RM500 balance) during their Saturday Banking event on 7 February 2026, plus stand a chance to win a share of RM150,000 with Alliance Basic Savings Account/-i.

Savings and Fixed Deposit “Huat” Rates

If you’ve received your festive bonus, parking it in a promotional FD beats leaving it in a regular savings account. Several banks are offering enhanced rates tied to CNY themes.

  • Hong Leong Bank: Limited-time eFD/eFD-i promotion with entries for lucky draw prizes when transacting via HLB Connect until 26 February 2026.
  • Hong Leong Bank Hello Kitty Promotion: Deposit RM88,000 and earmark it for 8 months to receive a Limited Edition Hello Kitty Solitaire Set (valued at RM2,888). Campaign runs 8 January to 8 March 2026, with 1,200 sets available nationwide.
  • MBSB Bank Term Deposit-i: Enjoy returns of up to 3.70% p.a. for 12 months with placements from RM1,000. Campaign runs 3 February to 30 April 2026.
  • MBSB Bank Term Investment Account-i: Indicative profit rate of up to 3.72% p.a. for 12-month tenure. Note: This is an investment account, not a deposit product — returns are tied to underlying asset performance.
  • MBSB Bank Unit Trust: Combine unit trust investment with Term Deposit-i for enhanced returns up to 5.88% p.a. for 3 months (minimum RM20,000 investment, 2.5% sales charge applies). Campaign ends 31 January 2026.
  • Maybank: Exclusive online-only promo rates for eIFD-i placements via Maybank2u web, running 15 January to 28 February 2026 (or until campaign limits are reached).
  • AmOnline: “Ong-mazing” rates of up to 3.68% p.a. for 12 months when placing via AmOnline. Key in the correct reward code before placement to secure promotional rates.
  • HSBC: HSBC Premier customers can enjoy up to 10.88% p.a. on 3-month TD/-i (bundled with investments) and get up to 2 Apple devices when investing and insuring. Promotion runs 1 January to 31 March 2026.
  • Public Bank: Purchase unit trust or single premium insurance/takaful products and place deposits in selected accounts to receive limited edition 24K Gold-Plated gifts (Twin Stallions or Soaring Golden Stallion). Campaign runs 1 January to 31 March 2026.

Retail and Lifestyle: New Year, New Look

Major retailers are offering gifts with purchase and seasonal discounts. Some of these are genuine bargains; others are standard seasonal promotions dressed up in red packaging.

Home & Electronics

Samsung’s rewards are substantial if you’re already planning a big appliance purchase — up to RM4,499 in extras is hard to ignore. The limited-edition AirPods are more of a collector’s item than a deal.

  • Samsung: The “Gong Xi Raya 2026” promo (1 January–31 March) offers rewards up to RM4,499, including TNG e-Wallet credit and Samsonite luggage for selected appliance purchases.
  • Apple (MY): Special Edition “Year of the Horse” AirPods Pro 3 available for RM999, featuring a unique horse emoji engraving.
  • AEON: RM5 free e-voucher for every RM80 spent in a single receipt every Saturday until 14 February 2026.

Chinese New Year is meant to be enjoyed, not stressed over. Some spending is inevitable, but overspending doesn’t have to be. By choosing promotions that genuinely suit your plans and skipping the rest, you can celebrate fully and still feel comfortable when the festive dust settles.
