The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) has launched a tourism recovery plan for 2022, offering a host of discounts, vouchers and rebates for more than 64,000 domestic travellers. These incentives are offered to encourage Malaysians to travel and spend within the country.

The minister of MOTAC, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said that her ministry has drawn up the incentives under the following five specific categories, with the collaboration of various industry players:

  • Land transport
  • Tourism association
  • Air travel
  • Accommodation
  • Special interest (such as shopping, scuba diving, and theme park activities)

Under the land transport category, MOTAC – through Tourism Malaysia – has partnered with KLIA Ekspres and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) to offer fare discounts of RM10 and RM15.

“Through KLIA Ekspres, a total of 24,875 users have the opportunity to redeem the RM10 discount for the purchase of round-trip tickets (one way only) from KL Sentral to KLIA/KLIA2 or vice versa,” said Datuk Seri Nancy. Meanwhile, 39,800 KTMB users who buy train tickets worth more than RM16 for interstate travel will be entitled to RM15 off their fares.

The KTMB as well as KLIA Ekspres discounts are applicable for fare tickets purchased between 29 April to 30 November 2022. Individuals can tap into them when they buy their tickets via the KLIA Ekspres and KTM Mobile app or website, or ticketing machines.

Meanwhile, under the tourism association category, Tourism Malaysia has collaborated with five tourism associations to offer discounts worth RM100 on various domestic tourism packages purchased through Shopee. To be eligible for the discount, Malaysians will need to buy any of the travel packages on offer, worth at least RM200, using ShopeePay.

Note that each eligible individual can only redeem the discount once for travel packages purchased between 29 April to 31 October 2022 (for the travel period until 31 December 2022).

“An estimated 14,925 consumers will receive this benefit with a target of selling a total holiday package worth RM2,985,000. Therefore, I call on Malaysians to seize this golden opportunity to enjoy the great discounts offered,” added Datuk Seri Nancy.

As for the incentives under the remaining three categories – air travel, accommodation, and special interest – these will be announced at a later date.
