Selangor RM30 Subsidy Can Now Pay For Komuter Tickets
Author Avatar

The Selangor government has extended its RM30 monthly public transport subsidy to KTM Komuter services in the Klang Valley and northern sector, as well as the southern shuttle service, from 1 October.

State investment, trade and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han announced the change in a statement, saying the subsidy previously covered only Rapid KL On-Demand and Kumpool services. So if you’re a Selangor voter who takes the train to work, you can now put your RM30 towards that fare

How Far Can RM30 Take You?

KTMB’s published cash fares from KL Sentral are RM2.90 to Subang Jaya, RM4 to Shah Alam and RM6.40 to Port Klang.

That means RM30 gets you about 10 one-way trips to Subang Jaya, seven to Shah Alam or four to Port Klang. If you commute to work and back, that’s about five working days from Subang Jaya, three from Shah Alam and two from Port Klang, and you cover the rest of the month’s fares yourself. For your own route, divide RM30 by the one-way fare to get a rough idea of how many trips the subsidy can cover.

Keep in mind that cashless fares can be different from cash fares, so check the KTMB Mobile app for the exact fare before paying.

Selangor Voters Can Apply Through Nine

Eligibility is based on your voter registration, not your home address or workplace. Selangor voters living or working in Kuala Lumpur can still apply, while Selangor residents registered to vote in another state are not eligible. Not sure where you’re registered? Check your voter registration through MySPR Semak.

If you’re eligible, apply through the Nine app (App Store | Google Play) and select KTM Komuter as your preferred transport service.

Once you’re approved, RM30 is credited to your Nine e-wallet every month, and you spend it by choosing Nine as the payment method when you buy tickets or travel passes in the KTMB Mobile or KITS Style app.

Only 50,000 Places Until December

The programme runs until December 2026, with 50,000 spots available. That’s the same cap announced in May, and places are given to the first 50,000 applicants.

So far, more than 90% of recipients have used the subsidy for Rapid KL On-Demand, the booking-based van service we covered when it introduced RM1 fares in 2025. Ng also said people aged 26 to 35 make up the largest group of recipients, at 35%.
