HSBC Malaysia has officially unveiled its iconic lion sculpture, Stitt, at Menara IQ in Tun Razak Exchange, in commemoration and celebration of its 140-year anniversary in Malaysia.
“For the past 140 years, HSBC has played a key role in Malaysia’s growth and development. Since opening the doors to our first office in Penang in 1884, we have supported and continue to support our customers and communities, growing and prospering together. The installation of the lion now at our Malaysia headquarters at Menara IQ is a concrete representation of our dedication to our clients over the past 140 years and for years to come,” said the chief executive officer of HSBC Malaysia, Dato’ Omar Siddiq.
In a statement, HSBC also shared that its iconic lions – which symbolise growth and prosperity – first made their appearances at the Shanghai branch back in 1923, comprising of a pair named Stitt and Stephen. The lions eventually became a distinctive feature at many HSBC offices around the world, including Malaysia, serving as emblematic guardians.
HSBC Malaysia’s head office in Menara IQ is also home to a mosaic mural of Stitt and Stephen. The mural was previously housed at the bank’s office at Lebuh Ampang for more than 12 years.
