Malaysian Banks Announce Flood Relief Measures to Support Affected Customers

In response to the devastating floods affecting communities across Malaysia, several banks have stepped forward by announcing flood assistance programmes to ease the financial burden on individuals and businesses. 

Here are some immediate aids that are being provided by the following banks: 

Affin Bank

Affin Bank is offering the AFFIN Natural Disaster Relief Programme (NDRP) in response to the recent floods. Through this programme, eligible customers can apply for a moratorium of up to six months to alleviate financial burdens during these challenging times, subject to the bank’s terms and conditions.

You can seek assistance by contacting the AFFIN Contact Centre at 03-8230 2222 or visiting any AFFIN branch to verify eligibility and apply for the NDRP. SME and corporate clients are advised to reach out to their Relationship Managers for personalised support and guidance. The application form can be found here

Agrobank

Agrobank is offering a six-month moratorium and free replacement of account books and debit cards for eligible customers in Terengganu, Kelantan, and other flood-affected states.

Ambank

For Ambank, eligible retail and SME customers can apply for a moratorium of up to six months on loan and financing repayments, with no late charges or penalties during this period. Additionally, fees for replacing passbooks, cheque books, fixed deposit certificates, ATM cards, and credit or debit cards will be waived.

To apply, customers should submit their requests along with supporting documents—such as a police report or a confirmation letter from the National Security Council (NSC) or State Assemblymen (ADUN)—within 60 calendar days from the date of the flood. Applications can be made through AmBank’s website, by visiting the nearest branch, or by calling the Contact Centre at 03-2178 8888.

Bank Islam

Under Bank Islam’s Prihatin Programme, affected house, personal, and vehicle financing customers can apply for a deferment of up to six months on their monthly instalments, subject to specific terms and conditions. Additionally, Bank Islam is offering a Disaster Relief Facility financing programme for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in flood-affected districts identified by the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA).

Bank Muamalat

Bank Muamalat is offering a flood relief programme that includes a moratorium of up to six months on all individual and business financing. Additionally, the bank is offering free replacements for debit and credit cards without any associated fees.

Bank Simpanan Nasional

BSN, too, has drawn up a flood relief programme to provide loan and financing repayment assistance, but did not share much details on its announcement page. Instead, it noted that customers should call the BSN contact centre at 1-300-88-1900 for more information, or email their enquiries to [email protected]. However, charges for replacement of damaged or lost BSN Credit Cards and Debit Cards due to flood disaster will also be waived.

CIMB Bank

CIMB’s “Flood Relief Assistance Plan” offers a six-month deferment on loans and financing for affected customers. The application process has been simplified, requiring only basic customer information, and all late charges and fees are waived. Additionally, the bank is providing free replacements for damaged banking documents such as credit and debit cards, statements, passbooks, and banker’s cheques.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can benefit from a Disaster Relief Facility offering up to RM700,000 in financing at preferential rates. CIMB Foundation has also pledged RM2.5 million to support flood relief and recovery initiatives. To apply, individual customers can call CIMB’s Contact Centre at +603-6204 7788. SMEs can apply online via www.cimb.com.my/frap.

Hong Leong Bank

Similar to many other banks, affected Hong Leong Bank customers can tap into a flood relief assistance programme, which also provides a six-month payment deferment on all loan and financing facilities, including credit cards. Additionally, HLB and HLISB are offering free replacements for essential banking documents, such as debit and credit cards, cheques, and bank statements, that may have been damaged or lost due to the floods. 

For existing SME and microenterprise customers, additional financing will be made to those who require working capital to facilitate their business recovery as a result of the floods.

To apply for the Flood Relief Assistance, customers must provide their account holder name, IC number, loan or financing account number, preferred contact details, the address of the affected location, and a photograph showing the flood’s impact on their vehicle, residence, or business premises. You can call +603 7959 1888, or visit the nearest bank branch for assistance.

Maybank

As part of its Flood Relief Assistance programme, Maybank is offering deferment of loan and financing repayments, reduction in monthly instalments, and extensions of repayment tenures. Customers can apply for assistance via email to [email protected], including details such as name, IC number, contact information, and the type of loan or product affected.

Alternatively, applications can be made by visiting or contacting any Maybank branch, Commercial Banking Centre, or Auto Finance Centre. SME customers are encouraged to reach out to their Relationship Managers for support.

Maybank is also waiving fees for replacing debit cards, ATM cards, and cheque books lost or damaged in the floods. Additionally, Etiqa, Maybank’s insurance arm, has introduced a simplified claims process, allowing policyholders to file claims via WhatsApp or through the Etiqa Flood Claims Careline, ensuring quicker processing. RHB Bank

RHB Bank’s Flood Relief Assistance Programme offers up to six months of instalment deferment for individuals and SMEs on facilities such as mortgages, personal loans, and hire purchase agreements. The bank is also waiving fees for ATM, debit, and credit card replacements, as well as late payment charges for credit card accounts up to RM500.

For SMEs, RHB provides financing facilities up to RM700,000 at preferential rates with tenures of up to seven years. RHB Insurance is expediting claims of up to RM10,000 for natural disaster-related fire insurance.

SME Bank

In a statement, SME bank reaffirmed its commitment to assisting businesses affected by the recent floods by offering tailored financing solutions and relief measures. For existing customers, the bank provides financing assistance and other relief options to help them navigate the challenges caused by the disaster.

Additionally, SME Bank supports micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through Bank Negara Malaysia’s Disaster Relief Facility (DRF). This facility offers financing of up to RM700,000 for SMEs and RM150,000 for micro enterprises at a competitive rate of 3.5% per annum, with a tenure of up to seven years.

Flood-affected customers are encouraged to contact their Relationship Managers or reach out to SME Bank’s Customer Contact Centre at 03-2603 7700. Further information can be found on the bank’s website at www.smebank.com.my and its social media channels.
