Fuel is one of the few expenses drivers cannot easily avoid. If you already use a credit card to pay at the pump, Bank Rakyat is offering a short campaign that gives cardholders a rebate on petrol station spending.
Bank Rakyat Credit Card-i holders can receive a 5% rebate on eligible transactions made at service stations and automated fuel dispensers nationwide from March 18 to March 31.
Participation is automatic for eligible cardholders, including principal and supplementary Credit Card-i holders. Corporate Credit Card-i accounts are excluded.
The rebate applies to transactions processed under the merchant category codes used for petrol stations and automated fuel pumps. This includes purchases of petrol and diesel, as well as other Shariah compliant items sold at petrol stations.
In practice, this means the rebate may apply not only to fuel but also to certain convenience store purchases made at petrol stations, provided the transaction falls under the eligible merchant category.
One practical feature of the campaign is that there is no minimum transaction requirement. Even smaller purchases at petrol stations can qualify for the 5% rebate.
The limitation appears on the payout side. Each cardholder can receive a maximum rebate of RM40 throughout the promotion. Once the cap is reached, further eligible spending will not earn additional rebate.
This makes the offer more of a short term saving on regular fuel spending rather than a significant reduction in overall transport costs.
The rebate is credited based on billed transactions and will appear in the cardholder’s credit card statement. Cardholders will not see the rebate immediately when making payment at the pump.
Instead, the full transaction amount is charged first, and the rebate is reflected in the following billing cycle.
The promotion has a total rebate allocation of RM100,000. If the allocation is fully claimed before the end of the campaign window, it may end earlier.
For cardholders who already use their Bank Rakyat Credit Card-i for petrol purchases, the offer provides a modest rebate on spending they would likely make anyway. It does not change pump prices, but it slightly reduces the effective fuel cost during the campaign period.
