Standard Chartered Bank has announced a few changes for its Visa Platinum credit card, effective 6 December. This includes an enhanced earning structure, where cardholders are eligible for up to 8x Reward Points depending on the transaction category.
The biggest change in the coming revision is that cardholders will now earn 5x Rewards Points for every RM1 spent on groceries (with MCC codes 5411 and 5499). This replaces the current benefit which offered 5x Rewards Points at department stores (with MCC code 5311).
In addition, for purchases made in foreign currency, cardholders will now earn 8x Rewards Points per RM1 spent, an increase from the previous rate of 5x Rewards Points. Meanwhile, other perks remain unchanged – you get 5x Rewards Points for dining transactions, and all other retail transactions will earn 1x Rewards Points.

Meanwhile, the 5,000 Rewards Points bonus perk has been slightly changed. Cardholders now can earn the bonus each month by spending RM1,500 or more exclusively on online transactions (which will also include e-wallet top-ups). Previously, this bonus was awarded upon meeting the qualifying spend of RM1,500 on any retail transactions (both online and offline).
Besides the revision to the Visa Platinum, Standard Chartered has also announced a few sweeping changes Standard Chartered is making with its credit cards lineup – find out more here.
