The government has announced that the sales tax exemption (SST) for new vehicles has been given another extension through to 30 June 2022.

The SST exemption was first announced in June 2020, which came as part of the PENJANA stimulus package to stimulate the economy after the first Movement Control Order (MCO) in March 2020. The SST exemption was originally scheduled to end on 31 December 2020 before it was extended to 30 June 2021, and again to 31 December 2021.

The percentage of the SST exemption remains unchanged with 100 percent exemption for locally-assembled (CKD) cars and 50 percent for fully-imported (CBU) cars.
