Budget 2022 has been unanimously passed by Dewan Negara after its third reading by Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.
Prior to this, the national budget – which was tabled for the first time on 29 October 2021 – was approved by Dewan Rakyat at the policy stage on 18 November. Subsequently, it underwent 13 days of debate and winding up, and was approved at the committee stage on 13 December. Budget 2022 then went to Dewan Negara for three days of debate and winding up by 27 ministries, before eventually being passed.
For context, Budget 2022 has a total allocation of RM332.1 billion, making it the largest national budget to date. It will fund various strategies and initiatives that are expected to help Malaysia recover from the severe economic repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic, including tax reliefs and financial aids for the people.
