Dewan Rakyat has officially passed Budget 2022 with a majority voice vote after it was tabled and read for the third time.

The latest national budget – which was first tabled by Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz on 29 October – was passed after a 13-day debate at the committee stage starting from 22 November 2021. It was passed at the policy stage on 18 November 2021.

Budget 2022 is noted to be the largest in the nation’s history to date, with an allocation of RM332.1 billion. For comparison, Budget 2021 had an allocation of RM322.54 billion, and was also said to be the largest national budget in Malaysian history back then.

The government hopes to utilise Budget 2022 to implement various strategies and initiatives that will help the nation rise to its feet once more, following the severe economic repercussions from the Covid-19 pandemic. Of the total, approximately RM236.1 billion will be channelled to operating expenditures, RM69 billion to development expenditures, and RM17 billion to the Covid-19 Fund.
