Budget 2024 has been passed at policy stage in the Dewan Rakyat via a majority voice vote. This came following the winding up of the debate for the national budget, which occurred between 16 to 26 October 2023.
The latest national budget is the second Madani budget to be presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and also serves as a continuation of the Ekonomi Madani framework. It involves an allocation of RM393.8 billion, which is the highest budget ever to have been presented in Malaysia. To compare, Budget 2023 had an allocation of RM388.1 billion, while Budget 2022 came up to RM332.1 billion.

Of the amount provided for Budget 2024, RM303.8 billion will be allocated for operating expenses, RM90 billion for development expenses, and RM2 billion for contingency savings.
Guided by the theme “Economic Reforms, Empowering the People”, Datuk Seri Anwar also highlighted that Budget 2024 will focus on three areas, namely improving governance for service agility, restructuring the economy to boost growth, and raising the people’s standard of living.
