UOB Updates EVOL Credit Card Cashback Benefit With Minor Change
Author Avatar

UOB Bank has announced a minor revision to the cashback mechanism of its UOB EVOL card, which will see the omission of one merchant category code (MCC) from cashback eligibility.

Currently, the UOB EVOL card’s cashback mechanism earns cashback on four categories: online shopping, entertainment, contactless parking, and Sustainable Partners. The cashback rewards are split into two tiers based on monthly spending: Tier 1 (monthly retail spend of RM 1,000-RM1,999.99) earns 5% cashback capped at RM30 per month. Meanwhile, Tier 2 (monthly retail spend of RM2,000 and above) earns 8% cashback capped at RM50 per month. For both tiers, there’s also a cashback sub-limit of RM15 per month for e-wallet reloads (which is categorised under the online shopping category).

Effective 16 December 2024, transactions under Merchant Category Code (MCC) 6012 will no longer qualify for cashback specifically under Tier 1 spending. Previously, transactions under MCC 6012 were eligible for cashback under Tier 1 alongside other e-wallet related MCCs including 4829, 6051, 6211, and 6540. Based on user reports on the Lowyat forums, BigPay is one of the merchants tagged under MCC 6012.

Aside from this specific change, the rest of the cashback mechanism for the UOB EVOL credit card will remain unchanged.
