HSBC Malaysia has taken the wraps off is latest credit card, the HSBC Live+, a lifestyle cashback card offering up to 8% cashback on dining, shopping, and entertainment transactions, as well as curated dining experiences across the region.
The HSBC Live+ card’s cashback mechanic follows a tiered system based on the monthly spend with the card, with the highest 8% tier unlocked with a minimum RM5,000 spending for the month. Each cashback category will have a monthly cap of RM30. Cardholders will earn cashback according based on the following minimum monthly spending:

In addition to the Dining cashback, HSBC Live+ cardholders will also enjoy the perks offered in the Live+ Dining Programme, a curated list of over 200 restaurants across Asia with discounts of up to 15% off. The list of restaurants cover 8 countries, and can be viewed in this dedicated page here.

Meanwhile, the Shopping cashback category covers transactions made in departmental stores, clothing stores, sporting goods stores, or luggage stores registered under the Shopping Merchant Category Codes (MCC) which can be found in the HSBC Live+ T&C here. Online transactions are also eligible for cashback, provided the online stores’ MCC falls under Shopping.
As for Entertainment cashback, eligible transactions cover cinemas, digital subscriptions, cable and satellite, TV, radio, and record stores as listed under Entertainment MCCs. As such, they will cover physical and digital entertainment transactions – which isn’t very common among cashback credit cards in Malaysia. Not to forget, from 1 July 2024 until 31 July 2025, cardholders will also enloy RM10 off movie tickets at GSC (website and app) every Saturday and Sunday (limited to the first 250 tickets every week).
It should also be noted that the 8% cashback is a promotional offer – the card offers a 5% cashback rate with a bonus 3% on the three cashback categories until 31 December 2024. From 1 January 2025, the 3% bonus rate will no longer be available – though it will be subject to possible extension. This is similar to the Singapore market, where the card was launched late last week.
The HSBC Live+ credit card is now available for application in Malaysia. The minimum annual income requirement is set at RM60,000 (RM5,000 a month), and for applications made before 31 July 2024, cardholders will enjoy a lifetime annual fee waiver. Full information on the card can be found at the official HSBC Live+ product page.

You need to spend RM5K just to get RM30 for each category? That’s pathetic I’d say. Try harder HSBC, I’d suggest if you want your customers to spend RM5K, you should at least cap it at RM80 then I will apply and put all my spendings on your card
With RM2,500 – 2% tier already can burst the cap….the 8% is a joke
It can be difficult sometimes, but it’s always good to check the fine print to understand how those tiers work for different spending.
RM90 / RM5000 = 1.8% cash back.
Simple maths, stop misleading readers!
The cashback is based on specific spending categories, so make sure it aligns with your spending habits.
tnc didnt mention cashback is for specific category or can combine
