Standard Chartered Beyond Credit Card Ties Premium Travel Perks To RM350,000 To RM3 Million In Assets
Author Avatar

Premium credit cards often compete on cashback rates or travel rewards linked to spending. Standard Chartered’s new Beyond Credit Card takes a different approach by linking its most attractive benefits directly to how much a client maintains with the bank.

The card is available only to Priority Banking and Priority Private clients who meet specific Assets Under Management thresholds. Instead of focusing purely on income or monthly card spend, eligibility and ongoing privileges depend on maintaining qualifying deposit and investment balances within the bank.

Eligibility Depends On Maintained Balances

The Beyond Credit Card is structured into two tiers aligned with Standard Chartered’s wealth segments. The Priority Private version requires at least RM3 million in monthly Assets Under Management, while the Priority Banking version requires at least RM350,000 and has been open for new applications since 20 February 2026.

Maintaining these balances is not just a condition for initial approval but also determines whether certain privileges remain active. If balances fall below the required threshold, benefits such as lounge access may be withdrawn and access fees may apply under the relevant programme terms. This structure makes the card’s value closely tied to long-term asset placement rather than short-term spending activity.

Lounge Access Reflects The Wealth Tier

Airport lounge access forms a central part of the card’s positioning, but the structure differs significantly between tiers.

Under the Priority Private tier, both principal and supplementary cardholders receive unlimited airport lounge access, and the principal cardholder is entitled to one complimentary accompanying guest per visit. Under the Priority Banking tier, lounge access is limited to eight visits per year, and these visits are shareable with supplementary cardholders.

Where eligibility conditions are not met, lounge visits may be charged at USD29 per person per visit. For clients in the RM3 million tier who travel frequently with family members, unlimited supplementary access can represent substantial convenience. In contrast, the RM350,000 tier provides a capped structure that is closer to what other premium cards offer in the market.

Travel Transfers And Airline Upgrade Benefit

The card also includes airport transfer privileges, again differentiated by tier. Priority Private cardholders are eligible for up to six airport transfers per year via Grab, capped at RM100 per ride, while Priority Banking cardholders receive six transfers per year capped at RM60 per ride.

In addition, the Priority Private tier offers one complimentary Malaysia Airlines Business Class upgrade when purchasing one Business Class and one Economy Class ticket within Asia, subject to fare and booking conditions. Both tiers include complimentary travel and medical insurance coverage of up to RM50,000 for principal cardholders.

These benefits are structured rather than automatic cash returns, and their practical value depends heavily on how often the cardholder travels and whether the specific conditions are met.

Dining Cashback With Monthly Caps

The Beyond Credit Card offers up to 60% cashback at selected restaurants, including establishments listed in the MICHELIN Guide. However, cashback is subject to monthly caps that determine the maximum savings achievable.

Priority Private cardholders can receive up to RM600 in cashback per month, while Priority Banking cardholders are capped at RM300 per month. The headline percentage therefore does not automatically translate into unlimited savings, as the effective benefit depends on dining frequency, participating outlets, and total monthly spend.

Points Structure Prioritises Overseas Spending

The rewards earn rate is weighted toward overseas transactions. Priority Private cardholders earn 15 points per RM1 on overseas dining and shopping, 10 points per RM1 on other overseas spending, and 1 point per RM1 on local spending. Priority Banking cardholders earn 10 points per RM1 on overseas dining and shopping, 5 points per RM1 on other overseas spending, and 1 point per RM1 on local transactions.

Cardholders whose spending is primarily overseas may accumulate rewards at a faster pace, while those who spend mainly within Malaysia will see a more modest earn rate.

Annual Fees Linked To Asset Maintenance

The annual fee for the Priority Private version is RM2,000 for the principal card and RM600 for supplementary cards. For Priority Banking, the annual fee is RM800 for the principal card and RM400 for supplementary cards.

These fees are waived only if the required Assets Under Management are maintained within the respective tiers. If balances fall below the threshold, the annual fee becomes payable, which directly affects the cost of retaining the card.

The overall structure makes it clear that the Beyond Credit Card is positioned as an extension of Standard Chartered’s Priority ecosystem rather than as a standalone rewards card competing purely on spend. Its strongest features are concentrated in the RM3 million tier, while the RM350,000 tier offers a more moderate set of benefits. Whether the card delivers meaningful value depends not just on travel and dining habits, but also on the willingness to maintain substantial assets within the bank’s platform.

Those who do not meet the asset requirements, or who prefer a card structured around spending rather than Assets Under Management, can explore other Standard Chartered credit card options.
