CIMB Bank has announced that it will no longer award Bonus Points (BP) for all debit card transactions starting from 1 November 2023. This comes following a slew of revisions to its Member Rewards Programme that were already announced earlier in July and August this year.
At present, those who are holding the CIMB Debit Mastercard card (issued by both CIMB Bank and CIMB Islamic Bank) are able to earn 1 BP for every RM4 that they spend via their debit cards (on the Mastercard network). These accumulated points can then be used to redeem vouchers or gifts from CIMB’s member rewards catalogue, or even Pay with Points.
Come 1 November, however, this benefit will be removed for these cardholders, and they will only be able to continue utilising other remaining existing perks for their cards. These include a flat 1% foreign exchange fee for overseas spend as well as exclusive shopping, dining, and travel deals via CIMB.
Prior to this, CIMB had already introduced several other BP-related revisions for credit cardholders, including terminating the ability to earn BP – and all other forms of rewards, such as cash rebates – for e-wallet payments (except for the CIMB e Card) and DuitNow QR transactions. Now that this benefit is also set to be dismissed for debit cardholders, only selected credit cardholders will continue to be able to earn CIMB’s BP on retail spend – such as those with the CIMB e Credit Card, Platinum/-i, Visa Signature, Preferred Visa Infinite, Visa Infinite/-i, World Mastercard, as well as the three CIMB Travel cards.
Lastly, CIMB has already updated its Member Rewards Programme terms and condition document to reflect this latest revision.
