Setel has introduced Setel Savers, a paid subscription that gives you extra Mesra Rewards points and cashback on non-fuel spending through the app. The plan costs RM4.90 per month, with a two-month free trial for new subscribers.
The subscription adds a 2x bonus points on top of the standard 1x Mesra point you earn for every RM5 spent on non-fuel transactions. That means for every RM5 you spend on eligible services, you earn 3 points instead of 1. Eligible categories include parking, motor insurance, road tax, auto assistance, bill payments, Setel QR payments (excluding DuitNow QR), Cafe Mesra, Petronas Shop, and EV charging.
For Kedai Mesra purchases, Setel Savers members earn 100 bonus points per transaction with a minimum spend of RM10, up to four times per 30-day billing cycle. EV charging comes with a separate bonus, spend a cumulative RM300 within a 30-day billing cycle on charging and you can earn up to 300 additional points, on top of the regular and 2x Setel Savers points you already collect per transaction.
Cashback rewards cover three Petronas vehicle services. Car servicing gets you RM25 cashback on a minimum spend of RM250, motor insurance renewal earns RM25 cashback, and battery replacement gives you RM10 back. Each cashback reward is limited to one transaction per billing cycle.
Altogether, Setel says subscribers can earn over 700 Mesra Rewards points and up to RM60 in cashback per cycle if they use every eligible category.
Setel Savers does not change how you earn points on petrol or diesel. Your fuel points continue to depend on your Mesra Rewards membership tier, which works separately from this subscription.
At the Junior tier, you earn 1.5x Mesra points per litre. Explorer members earn 2x per litre, and Hero members earn 3x per litre. These tiered fuel rates are valid until 30th June 2026.
Since 1 Mesra point is worth 1 sen, your fuel earnings depend entirely on how often you fill up and which tier you sit on.
If you regularly pay for parking, top up your road tax, or service your car through the app, the cashback rewards alone can cover the RM4.90 monthly fee. A single car service cashback of RM25 covers five months of the subscription.
If your Setel usage is mostly limited to fuel, the subscription may not save you money. The 2x bonus points only apply to non-fuel categories, and the cashback perks require spending on specific vehicle-related services.
The two-month free trial gives you time to test whether your non-fuel spending generates enough bonus points to cover the subscription fee and save. You can cancel anytime, so there is no long-term commitment if this does not work out. To subscribe, look for the Setel Savers option in the Setel app and tap “Start free trial.”
