The Malay community is set to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri in just one week, and one of their main traditions involve the giving of duit raya in green packets. In accordance with this, several banks have announced that they will be providing bank notes for their customers via automated teller machines (ATMs) throughout the country – with some even offering new notes.
Here are the banks that have made the announcements thus far:

Affin Bank customers will be able to obtain RM10 and RM50 duit raya notes at selected ATMs or cash recycling machines (CRMs) nationwide. This service will be available from 3 to 10 April 2024 (although it is not explicitly mentioned if these notes will be new or recycled fit).
The bank also clarified that the withdrawal limit for each customer per day is set at RM5,000. However, this is also subject to the withdrawal limit of your card and the availability of notes in the machine.
You can find the full list of Affin Bank and Affin Islamic Bank branches that house these ATMs and CRMs here.

Bank Islam said that it has been offering “good quality” RM10, RM20, RM50, and RM100 bank notes to customers for their duit raya needs since 27 March 2024. These notes can be obtained via ATMs at selected branches and locations nationwide.
However, do be aware that certain ATMs will only dispense specific notes (and not all four types of notes). For example, the ATM at Menara Bank Islam in KL is only dispensing RM10 and RM50 notes, whereas the ATM at the Section 18 branch (Shah Alam, Selangor) is dispensing RM20 and RM100 notes. Remember that you will also need to abide by the withdrawal limit of your card and the availability of the notes in the ATMs.

CIMB Bank, on the other hand, has said that it is providing new RM10 notes for customer at selected ATMs, starting from 4 to 10 April 2024. However, they are only made available at branches in Johor, as well as Sabah and Sarawak. For customers in the other states, you will most likely need to speak to the bank’s staff members over the counter to request for recycled fit notes.
For your convenience, here’s the full list of CIMB ATMs that will dispense the new RM10 notes.

Lastly, Maybank is offering recycled fit RM10 bank notes from today until 9 April 2024 at selected ATMs nationwide. In its announcement, the bank also emphasised that recycled fit notes are offered in a bid “to promote sustainability and conserve resources”.
Aside from that, Maybank also highlighted that the specific ATMs that can dispense these RM10 bank notes will be labelled for customers’ convenience. Here’s the list of the Maybank ATMs that you can visit at 72 locations to obtain the recycled fit RM10 notes for your duit raya needs.

This year, many banks in Malaysia have switched to offering recycled fit or “good quality” notes for celebrations like Hari Raya, instead of the usual fresh notes typically offered in previous years. We saw this even during the Chinese New Year celebrations that just passed, marked by a noticeable shortage of new bank notes. This can be attributed primarily to the banks’ efforts in further promoting sustainability in their operations, following calls from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) to do so. Furthermore, BNM and ABM have both also urged Malaysians to use online transfers for these special occasions.
Regardless of the condition of the bank notes and the methods that you choose, though – be it physical or e-duit raya – we’d like to remind everyone that it is ultimately the intention behind the act of giving that means the most. Duit raya is, after all, a symbol of blessing and generosity!
