Disney+ Hotstar To Update Subscription Plans With New Pricing Structures In April
Author Avatar

Disney+ Hotstar has announced an update to its subscription plans for Malaysian customers, in which it will soon offer two new options – Basic and Premium – with a few subscription tenures and new pricing structures. Set to take effect from 24 April 2024 onwards, these will replace the only existing plan offered at the moment: a three-month plan priced at RM54.90.

On its support page, Disney+ Hotstar explained that its users will soon be able to select from one of the following plans, priced accordingly:

PlansTenurePrice
Disney+ Hotstar BasicAnnual
Monthly
RM214.90 per year
RM24.90 per month
Disney+ Hotstar PremiumAnnual
Monthly
Quarterly
RM289.90 per year
RM39.90 per month
RM79.90 per quarter

Aside from that, the streaming service also shared the differences that will distinguish the Disney+ Hotstar Basic and Premium plans. These ultimately come down to the number of concurrent streaming screens allowed, as well as the maximum device logins and video quality. Here’s a table from Disney+ Hotstar to summarise the differences:

Disney+ Hotstar also noted that the new price will be immediately applicable to new subscribers come 24 April. Meanwhile, existing customers will see a price change in their billing on or after the date. “That being said, you could still be affected by the price increase even though your billing cycle ends before 24 April 2024. That would happen if we are unable to process your payment before 24 April 2024 and the payment succeeds on or after 24 April 2024,” the service shared.

Additionally, Disney+ Hotstar reminded that the pricing on partner platforms may vary, but no updates have been provided on these as of yet. In Malaysia, Disney+ Hotstar is also offered to customers via Astro and Unifi TV; both Astro and Unifi are expected to share an update soon.

With this revision, Disney+ Hotstar customers are set to experience a pretty significant hike in the cost of their subscription. As a comparison, those who’ve been subscribing to the existing three-month plan at RM54.90 are currently paying RM18.30 per month. If you were to opt for the monthly Basic plan (priced at RM24.90), you’ll be seeing an increase of RM6.60.

And if you would like to keep the three-month subscription plan – which is now available only as a Premium plan (priced at RM79.90) – you’re looking at a hike of RM8.30 each month. The only way to gain a slight bit of savings via the new plans is to subscribe to the annual Basic plan, where you be paying RM17.90 per month (but of course, you’ll be tied for the entire year).

To note, Disney+ Hotstar began streaming in Malaysia back in June 2021, and has not changed its pricing structure since. This revision is the first update to its pricing structure.

It depends on the specific content licensing agreements and regional restrictions set by Disney+ Hotstar. It’s best to check directly with Disney+ Hotstar or their support team to get the most accurate information regarding the access while in Malaysia.

It seems there may be restrictions based on your account’s region settings. To resolve this issue, I recommend contacting Disney+ Hotstar’s customer support directly. They should be able to provide you with guidance on how to access the service from your location.
