Around 100,000 commercial vehicles across Malaysia are eligible for RON95 petrol subsidies through the Subsidised Petrol Control System. The scheme covers company-owned vehicles in the goods transport sector, such as lorries and vans, as well as those in the public land transport sector, including buses and minibuses.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the estimate was based on data integration between the Subsidised Petrol Control System platform and the Road Transport Department (JPJ). He added that the subsidy is intended to support operators that provide essential services to the public and, in turn, help reduce the impact on consumers.
Although registration for the Subsidised Petrol Control System opened on 15 September, uptake has been limited. So far, only 335 vehicles from 154 companies have signed up.
Of these, 240 vehicles were registered by 70 public land transport companies, while 95 vehicles came from 84 goods transport companies.
Armizan encouraged eligible operators to register early to ensure they receive subsidy benefits from the first day of implementation.
Companies must first complete registration with the Subsidised Petrol Control System before applying for a fleet card from one of three designated petrol companies. The fleet card is required to access subsidised RON95 fuel.
Armizan explained that this process ensures the subsidy can be channelled directly to eligible vehicles, supporting operators that provide essential services to the public.
The minister explained that the subsidy is intended to support transport operators that provide essential services to the public. By easing fuel costs for buses, taxis, and goods carriers, the initiative is expected to reduce the overall impact on consumers.
Applications for the Subsidised Petrol Control System can be submitted through the official portal. While there is no closing date for registration, early applications will allow companies to benefit as soon as the subsidy takes effect.
