99 Speedmart Now Accepts American Express Cards At All Outlets
Author Avatar

We’ll preface this article with an admission that this isn’t “breaking news”, but rather a discovery that we only just made recently: 99 Speedmart, the popular convenience/minimart chain, accepts American Express cards – and has done so since 1 May 2023.

From past experience, the minimart chain previously only accepted Visa and Mastercard networks alongside a host of e-wallets. However, we began spotting the “American Express Cards Welcome” stickers in some outlets, before confirming it ourselves in-store (side note: they still used the same orange card processing devices as before).

We reached out also to 99 Speedmart’s Facebook page to check, which was when we were told that Amex acceptance rolled out on 1 May 2023 – just about a month ago. We also found 99 Speedmart being listed as an Amex merchant in Maybank’s list – but we weren’t able to verify when that list was updated.

Given the reputation surrounding Amex acceptance, this is definitely good news for those who frequent 99 Speedmart, which is popular in Malaysia thanks to its extensive network of over 2,000 outlets (as of November 2021) and a reputation of fair prices. It also means Amex cardholders can stretch their Ringgit further by taking advantage of the various perks of Amex cards, from weekend cashback to accumulating TreatsPoints for air miles redemptions.
