Google has introduced eWallet integration for the first time in Southeast Asia by enabling ShopeePay and TNG eWallet, an Alipay+ partner, as payment options through Google Pay in Malaysia.

This new feature allows Android users in the country to make purchases using their preferred eWallets when shopping on mobile websites via Google Chrome, starting with a selection of participating online merchants.

In a statement, Google highlighted the growing popularity of digital wallets in Malaysia, noting that 88% of Malaysians are now eWallet users. The integration with Google Pay aims to enhance convenience and security for online transactions, in line with evolving consumer preferences.

Farhan S. Qureshi, Country Director for Google Malaysia, described the launch as a significant step in localising Google Pay for the Malaysian market. He emphasised that Malaysia, with its dynamic digital payments environment, was an ideal choice for debuting this feature in the region. The integration with well-established platforms such as ShopeePay and TNG eWallet, he said, reflects Google’s commitment to delivering seamless, secure payment experiences tailored to local habits.

With Malaysia being the first country in Southeast Asia to implement this form of integration, the initiative may pave the way for broader digital payment innovation across the region.

Among the early merchants supporting the integration are Nando’s, US Pizza (via Fiuu), Alpro Pharmacy, TK Bakery, and Yoyo Bus (via iPay88). Users shopping on their mobile browsers can now complete purchases using ShopeePay or TNG eWallet through Google Pay. The system supports top-ups, and users will soon be able to view their eWallet balances through the platform as well.

To further streamline the process, Google Pay requires a one-time verification for first-time payments, enabling faster one-click transactions for future use. Additional security is provided through fingerprint or PIN verification, ensuring a safe checkout experience.
