Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said that the government has capped the prices of various Covid-19 tests in a bid to keep them at a reasonable level. These ceiling prices are gazetted under the Emergency (Essential Powers) Ordinance 2021.

“We used the Emergency Ordinance to cap the prices for such tests. If the price is more than what has been set, those responsible will have to itemise what the additional charges are for,” said the minister, adding that the public can use these caps as a guideline when paying for their Covid-19 tests.

The ceiling prices have been set in place for three Covid-19 tests – the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test, RTK-Antigen test, and RTK-Antibody test – as follows:

TestsCeiling Price

Ceiling Price
(Sabah & Sarawak)
RT-PCR testRM150RM200
RTK-Antigen testRM60RM80
RTK-Antibody testRM50RM70

Dr Adham further stated that individuals who suspect that they were overcharged for their Covid-19 tests may lodge complaints with the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC).

Earlier in February 2021, Dr Adham had revealed in an interview that the government is seeking to implement price controls on Covid-19 tests that are being sold in the private sector. He noted then that private health facilities charged between a wide range of RM240 to RM480 for RT-PCR tests. Meanwhile, RTK-antigen tests were priced between RM130 to RM180 at private hospitals, general practitioner clinics, and laboratories.
