JPJ Will Not Consider Appeals For Driving Without Insurance Or Road Tax

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has made it clear that it will not consider any appeals for leniency from motorists caught driving without valid insurance or road tax, regardless of the individual’s public profile.

JPJ director general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said enforcement action will be taken strictly in such cases, even if the offender is a well-known figure.

Seizure Of Influencer’s Vehicle Draws Attention

Aedy was responding to questions following JPJ’s seizure of a luxury vehicle owned by a social media influencer. The vehicle was found to be operating without valid insurance coverage and with an expired vehicle licence.

He said the seizure was carried out in line with existing procedures, as the offences posed a significant risk to road safety.

Driving Without Insurance Poses Serious Safety Risks

According to Aedy, vehicles driven without valid insurance and road tax present risks not only to the driver and passengers but also to other road users.

He explained that in the event of an accident, the absence of insurance means there is no financial protection for victims. This, he said, makes such offences a serious safety concern.

Aedy made these remarks during a press conference held in conjunction with Op Luxury 4.0 at the JPJ Seized Vehicles Depot in Kuala Lumpur.

No Compromise On Road Safety Enforcement

The JPJ director general stressed that safety remains the department’s top priority and that enforcement action must be taken promptly to prevent more serious incidents.

He said taking action early is necessary to avoid accidents that could result in injuries or loss of life. For matters involving insurance, he added, there is no room for compromise as human safety is at stake.

Requests For Leniency Will Not Be Entertained

Commenting on claims by the influencer requesting leniency, Aedy said such appeals cannot be considered for offences that directly affect road safety.

He reiterated that JPJ officers act according to established laws and procedures, and enforcement decisions are not influenced by an individual’s popularity or public standing.
