Klang Valley Commuters Have Some Relief As Fuel Prices Keep Climbing
Author Avatar

The government will continue its subsidised public transport pass schemes in the Klang Valley, including the My50 monthly pass, as fuel costs continue to rise. Transport Minister Anthony Loke confirmed the decision at a press conference on 14 April 2026.

The My50 pass offers unlimited travel on rail and bus services in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor for RM50 a month. Loke said the actual value of the pass is around RM150, making the subsidised price roughly 67% lower than what it would otherwise cost. Around 40% of eligible users have adopted the pass since its introduction, up from 98,000 active monthly users in 2019 to 220,000 in 2023.

Other Passes Available Under The Scheme

Alongside My50, Prasarana Malaysia Berhad will continue offering one-day and three-day passes under Rapid KL for commuters who travel less frequently and do not need a monthly pass.

A Rapid Keluarga pass is also available, allowing unlimited group travel for up to four people on weekends and public holidays. This is aimed at families looking for a more affordable option for joint trips rather than purchasing individual tickets.

Purchasing And Renewing The My50 Pass

The My50 pass can be purchased at Rapid KL customer service counters at LRT, MRT, Monorail, and BRT stations, as well as selected bus hubs. Since July 2025, purchases and renewals can also be done via the Touch ‘n Go eWallet, following the discontinuation of the MyRapid PULSE and MyRapid Shop apps as a purchase channel in January 2026.

The My50 pass remains one of the more straightforward ways to reduce monthly transport spending for regular Klang Valley commuters. At RM50, a commuter using rail and bus services daily across the month would typically pay far less per trip than purchasing individual tickets. The announcement comes as fuel prices continue to climb, with the government framing these passes as part of a broader effort to cushion the cost impact on urban households.
