Nearly 2 Million Malaysian Motorists At Risk Of Blacklisting
Author Avatar

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued a warning to nearly two million road users who face potential blacklisting for failing to settle outstanding traffic fines. These summonses are related to offences recorded under the Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS) Summons 53A, Notices 114 and 115.

Beyond the risk of being blacklisted, offenders may also see a rise in their compound rates to RM300, and the Road Offences Demerit Points System (KEJARA) may apply demerit points to their records.

To help ease the financial burden and encourage settlement, JPJ is offering a special compound rate. Offenders with outstanding summonses can take advantage of a flat rate of RM150 for all three types of offences. The special offer began in January and will remain in effect until the end of the year.

Statistics And Key Hotspots

Data from January until late September shows a high volume of outstanding fines, with some dating back more than 15 years. There were over 1.45 million AWAS summonses, followed by 296,684 for Notice 114, and 164,598 for Notice 115.

The Menora Tunnel in Ipoh is a particular hotspot, with up to an astonishing  3,000 AWAS summonses issued daily, primarily for speeding offences. The three states with the highest number of summonses issued are Selangor, Perak, and Johor. The high number of summonses in these states is directly correlated with the number of AWAS cameras installed.

JPJ urges the public to take advantage of the 50% discount offered under the special compound rate of RM150 before stricter enforcement measures are implemented. Clearing these outstanding summonses is a financially savvy move that can help avoid future complications.
