Pos Malaysia Launches Malaysia’s First NFT Stamps
Author Avatar

In celebration of Malaysia’s National Day and upcoming Malaysia Day, Pos Malaysia has released its first set of non-fungible token (NFT) stamps, which can be redeemed with the purchase of a special edition stamp folder set dubbed #Empatbelas Setem Ku. This makes the local postal service provider the second in Southeast Asia to do so, after Thailand Post.

According to Pos Malaysia, the various stamps – which were produced in collaboration with local retail brand APOM – sought to represent the uniqueness and culture of each state in Malaysia. Customers who purchase the #Empatbelas Setem Ku stamp folder set will receive the following items:

  • A physical stamp sheet of 14 stamps
  • One NFT stamp (choose from the 14 stamp designs available)
  • Three envelopes
  • Three postcards
  • Specially designed folder

Each stamp folder set is priced at RM59.00, with only a total of 3,000 units available for sale. You can purchase them either online via Pos Malaysia’s website, or at all General Post offices and selected post offices nationwide.

Upon purchasing the #Empatbelas Setem Ku stamp folder set, you’ll have until 31 October 2022 to redeem your NFT stamp. Before you can do that, however, make sure to set up a MetaMask crypto wallet first as your NFT stamp will be transferred to this wallet (here’s a guide on how to set up your MetaMask crypto wallet).

Once your MetaMask crypto wallet is ready, obtain your unique security number by scratching off the yellow sticker at the back of your #Empatbelas Setem Ku folder. You’ll need it in order to fill in the redemption form, as well as to select your preferred NFT stamp. Once you’ve submitted the form, your NFT stamp will be transferred to your MetaMask wallet within five working days.

Do also note that each NFT stamp is limited in number as well; every NFT stamp only has 220 editions/units. So if you have a particular design that you like, do hurry and claim it! You can check out all the available designs here on Pos Malaysia’s dedicated page.

“Penetrating the NFT market is a significant milestone for Pos Malaysia, as we complement our traditional postal offerings with various digitised services and products, enhancing efficiency and improving the way we connect with customers in the rapidly evolving and digitally enhanced world,” said the group chief executive officer of Pos Malaysia, Charles Brewer.

Meanwhile, the co-founder of APOM, Chantelle Teoh said that #Empatbelas is the brand’s annual Merdeka-Malaysia Day collaboration project. She also highlighted that this year’s collaboration with Pos Malaysia allowed 14 artists to showcase their creativity and pride for their states on not just physical stamps, but also NFT stamps – which transcend globally beyond the philatelic community.

Aside from Pos Malaysia and Thailand Post, several other postal service providers across the world have also initiated similar NFT initiatives. These include Austrian Post (Austria), Swiss Post (Switzerland), Emirates Post Group (UAE), and PostNL (Netherlands).
