The Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia is back with its SAVE programme for the fourth time, this time offering rebates of up to RM400 for the purchase of selected energy-efficient electrical appliances. It is set to run for a year until December 2024.

Similar to previous versions of the programme, SAVE 4.0 is also aimed at helping to increase public awareness and to encourage them to buy energy-efficient appliances that will save consumers’ electricity consumption. The rebate will be granted to domestic households that purchase refrigerators or air conditioners with 4-star or 5-star energy efficiency labels by the Energy Commission (RM200 rebate allowed for each appliance, respectively).

Each individual or household with one electricity bill account is only allowed to redeem the rebate once for the appliances that they have purchased, which will be provided on a first-come first-served basis. To tap into the rebates, you can either present your electricity bill and IC in person at registered retailers when purchasing your appliances, or by applying for an e-rebate via participating e-commerce platforms like Lazada, Shopee, PGMall, Youbeli, and TikTok Shop.

If you opt to purchase your appliances in person at physical stores, the retailer will help you to check your eligibility based on your electricity bill and apply for the e-rebate on your behalf. Meanwhile, if you decide to do it online, you will need to browse and search for products that are eligible for the discount, then chat with the seller, who will then assist you in your application for the SAVE 4.0 voucher. Once approved, you will receive the voucher code, which can then be applied to your purchases during checkout.

Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change Minister, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said that a total of RM50 million has been allocated by the Electrical Supply Industry Trust Account (AAIBE) for the SAVE 4.0 programme. “Through this programme, our goal is to inspire more electricity users to adopt energy-efficient practices, leading to both energy savings and reduced electricity bills. The provision of subsidies or rebates in the future will be further streamlined with the forthcoming Padu system, enhancing the calculation of electricity subsidies,” he added.

Nik Nazmi also shared that the previous programme, SAVE 3.0, had achieved notable results, recording 324 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of energy savings. This translates to a decrease of 281,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emission, as well as an annual cost reduction of RM129.4 million.

The SAVE programme was first launched back in 2011 and has been spearheaded by SEDA since.
