Fuel payment app Setel has partnered with Maybank to unlock the benefits of the bank’s Petronas Visa credit cards when customers use these cards to make payments via Setel. Set to take effect from 1 September 2023, they will be able to earn up to 8x TreatsPoints and up to 8% cashback when they link their cards to their Setel accounts and pay for their fuel expenses via the CardTerus feature in the app.

This latest update – which will impact four Maybank Petronas Visa cards – resolves a long-time pain point for cardholders as the current arrangement only allows them to fully enjoy their credit card privileges (up to 8x TreatsPoints and 8% cashback for Petronas-related payments) when they make direct card payments at Petronas service stations. Card payments made via Setel, meanwhile, earn minimal TreatsPoints or cashback, despite Setel being an app that was originally meant for payments at Petronas (it has subsequently been expanded for payments at other merchants via DuitNow).

With this development, customers using the following four Maybank Petronas cards for payments on Setel will be able to enjoy their cards’ benefits, as listed here:

To begin earning TreatsPoints and cashback via your Maybank Petronas Visa cards on Setel, you’ll first need to link them to your Setel app. To do so, tap on the payment method icon located on the top right of your Setel home screen, then “Add new credit or debit card”. You’ll then be prompted to enter your card details, followed by a security code that is sent to your mobile for verification. Once that’s completed, your card is successfully linked, and you’re free to use your card via Setel’s CardTerus feature to earn TreatsPoints or cashback!
