Maybank Confirms MAE Will Remain Its Main Mobile Banking App

Maybank has clarified that it does not plan to replace its MAE mobile banking app, following earlier remarks that sparked concern among customers about another potential app migration.

The bank said the “new mobile banking app” mentioned earlier this week actually refers to an upgraded version of MAE, rather than a separate application.

Clarification Follows Comments At Corporate Briefing

The clarification comes after Maybank President and Group CEO Datuk Seri Khairussaleh Ramli said during a corporate briefing on 20 January 2026 that the bank was working on a new mobile banking app that could eventually replace MAE.

Those comments led to speculation that Maybank was preparing to launch a separate platform, raising questions among users about whether they would need to move their accounts to another app.

Customer Concerns Linked To Past App Migration

Public reaction to the remarks was largely negative, with many customers expressing frustration over the possibility of another forced transition.

In August 2024, Maybank discontinued its Maybank2u mobile app and required users to switch to MAE. The prospect of repeating that experience prompted concerns about disruption and inconvenience.

With the latest clarification, customers will not need to worry about downloading a new app or migrating their accounts again.

MAE To Be Upgraded Rather Than Replaced

According to a Maybank spokesperson, the bank plans to progressively enhance MAE by introducing new capabilities over time, instead of launching a separate mobile banking platform.

The spokesperson added that MAE will continue to serve as Maybank’s primary consumer-facing mobile banking app, with improvements rolled out gradually.

No Details Yet On New Features Or Timeline

Maybank did not disclose what new features will be added to MAE or how extensive the upgrades will be compared with the current app experience.

The bank also did not provide a specific timeline for when the enhancements will be introduced, indicating that updates are likely to be implemented incrementally rather than through a single major update.

What Users Can Expect Going Forward

For now, MAE users can continue using the same app without any changes to how they access their accounts.

The clarification provides reassurance for customers who were concerned about disruption, while signalling that Maybank intends to continue refining its digital banking services through updates to MAE rather than a platform replacement.
