Selangor Expands Financial Aid For Persons With Disabilities Under BRAIS 2026

If you’re a parent or guardian of a person with disabilities (PwD) in Selangor, there are now more categories of state-funded aid you can apply for. The Bantuan Rahmah Insan Istimewa Selangor (BRAIS) 2026 programme replaces the earlier Bantuan Khas Anak Istimewa Selangor (ANIS) with new grants for bathroom modifications and medication, and raises the beneficiary age limit from 18 to 60.

Applications open on 1 June at 8.30am and close on 22 June at 5pm, through the official Yayasan Anak Insan Istimewa Selangor (YANIS) website.

Two New Aid Categories

BRAIS 2026 adds two categories of aid that did not exist under ANIS.

The first is a RM1,500 grant for disability-friendly residential toilet facilities. This covers modifications like grab bars, accessible fixtures, or layout changes for wheelchair access at home.

The second is RM1,200 for medication, supplements, and other special needs. This is separate from therapy and equipment aid under ANIS, and covers ongoing healthcare costs that families typically pay out of pocket.

Age Limit Raised To 60

Under ANIS, support was capped at age 18, which meant adult PwDs were excluded from equipment, medical, and therapy assistance through this programme. BRAIS 2026 raises that ceiling to 60 years old.

Disability-related costs do not stop at 18. Equipment wears out, therapy needs change, and medication is ongoing. For families supporting adult PwDs in Selangor, this is the first time they can access YANIS aid for equipment and medical needs beyond childhood.

Fully Online Applications

All supporting documents for BRAIS 2026 applications will be submitted online, a shift from the previous process that involved physical document submission through Pusat Khidmat Masyarakat (PKM) offices. State exco member Anfaal Saari said this change is intended to speed up approvals and reduce the burden on parents and guardians.

Applicants will still need a registered OKU card issued by Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM), and beneficiaries must be registered voters in Selangor. If you are not yet registered with JKM, you can apply for an OKU card through JKM’s official website.

What This Means If You’re Caring For A PwD In Selangor

BRAIS 2026 fills gaps that families have dealt with for years. Bathroom modifications are a common expense that was not previously covered under ANIS. Medication and supplement costs were similarly left out, even though they are recurring and often unavoidable.

The programme also retains existing ANIS categories: RM1,200 for therapy centre fees, up to RM3,000 for special equipment such as wheelchairs or hearing aids, and RM120 for special education school fees. Under the previous scheme, the maximum total aid per family was RM5,000 per year. The BRAIS 2026 announcement did not confirm whether this cap has changed, so it is worth checking directly with YANIS when applications open.

Many adult PwDs in Selangor rely on ageing equipment or go without therapy because existing federal and state programmes have limited funding or long waiting lists. BRAIS 2026 does not replace federal JKM assistance, but it gives families access to state-funded aid that was previously restricted to children.

The three-week application window is tight. If you plan to apply, gather your documents early, including your OKU card, proof of Selangor voter registration, and any medical recommendations for equipment or therapy needs.

If you’re caring for a PwD, it is also worth keeping receipts for any disability-related expenses you incur this year. OKU-related tax reliefs were increased under Budget 2026, and you can claim them when you file in 2027. Our Budget 2026 action plan breaks down what to track.
