AmBank Revises Credit Card Terms With Updates To Rewards, Cashback And Exclusions
Author Avatar

AmBank has announced a series of revisions to the terms and conditions governing their credit cards, refining the structure of rewards programmes, cashback eligibility, and exclusions. These updates, which apply to various card types, clarify the criteria for earning and redeeming rewards while aligning with current financial and regulatory practices.

A key revision concerns the AmBonus Points programme, which continues to apply to retail spending but now includes more explicit exclusions. Transactions that will not earn AmBonus Points include interest, finance charges, government service tax, cash advances, balance transfers, quasi-cash transactions such as betting and gaming, and outstanding balances carried forward from previous months.

Additionally, points will not be awarded for purchases at petrol stations, donations under Merchant Category Code (MCC) 8398, government-related payments, or transactions made via JomPay, FPX, and DuitNow QR. The updated terms aim to provide greater clarity on eligible spending categories while ensuring consistency in how rewards are calculated.

Changes have also been made to the BonusLink and Enrich Points reward structures. Previously outlined within the general credit card agreement, these programmes will now adhere to their respective card-specific terms and conditions. This change means that cardholders looking to understand their reward accumulation rates and redemption options must refer directly to the terms associated with their specific card type.

For cashback rewards, similar refinements have been introduced. While cardholders can still earn cashback on eligible spending, several exclusions have been defined. Transactions that will not qualify for cashback include interest, finance charges, government service tax, cash advances, balance transfers, and quasi-cash transactions. Furthermore, payments through JomPay, FPX, DuitNow QR, and instalment payment plans will not contribute to cashback accumulation. Purchases at petrol stations and e-wallet transactions under MCC 6540 are also excluded from cashback calculations.

Additionally, the terms have been updated for selected and specialised credit cards that offer optional features. These cards may come with partner reward programmes, and the revised terms clarify that such rewards will be governed by the respective card-specific conditions. Cardholders who opt for any of these features will continue to be subject to additional terms, as outlined in separate supplementary documents.

For further enquiries regarding these revisions, customers can contact the AmBank Contact Centre at +603-2178 8888, available daily from 7.00 a.m. to 11.00 p.m., or email [email protected].
