UOB Bank has shared an update on the delivery of new UOB credit cards to its customers who are currently still holding Citi-branded cards, informing them that the process will be moved to the first quarter of 2024 (1Q24). This comes as the bank strives to complete the migration of Citi’s consumer business to its ecosystem, following UOB’s acquisition of Citi’s consumer banking business.
In an SMS sent by the bank, several affected customers were informed that “[y]our new UOB card will be sent to you from Q1’24. Please continue to use your Citi-branded cards until [the] new card arrives.” While UOB did not offer any explanation for the changes to the date, it did remind the customers to keep an eye out for future updates – and that their Citi-branded cards can still be used as usual, with following the benefits of the replacement UOB cards.

In the timeline previously shared by UOB – which shows the key milestone dates for the whole transition process – Citi credit cardholders were originally scheduled to receive their new UOB replacement cards starting from October 2023. This was also meant to be the final phase to wrap up the transition exercise, which began in November 2022.
For context, UOB acquired Citi’s consumer banking business in Malaysia and several other markets in early 2022, after Citi announced its decision to exit from retail banking in several regions. After a period of bidding – which also saw interest from various entities like Hong Leong Bank and Standard Chartered Bank – Citi eventually decided to sell its consumer banking business in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam to UOB. This acquisition is said to be the largest deal to have been carried out between two foreign banks in Malaysia in the past decade.
